Interactive narrative, cut like film
Frameline
An editor for interactive narrative works that speaks the grammar of cinema. Write in Shots, draw Exits between Scenes, and hand a Reader one link.
The street
The door gives on the third push. Rain, and the neon of the bar opposite, already lit at four in the afternoon.
- Cross to the bar
- Stay in the doorway until it eases
What a Story is made of
Story
A whole work, owned by you and handed to a Reader as one link.
Scene
A linear run of Shots, and the only unit at which a Story branches.
Shot
One beat: an image, its text, or both. The smallest thing a Reader is shown.
Exit
A way on from one Scene to another, offered at the end of a Scene for the Reader to take.
Condition
A test that decides whether a Shot plays or an Exit is offered, so the same Scene reads differently without ever branching.
